Like a phoenix raising from the ashes

Filed under: General by Mike in the late afternoon on Mon, Jan 31, 2005

Alternative rock is making a comeback in Baltimore. WHFS is know being played on Live105.7 weeknights after 7PM and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Even better they can be heard 24/7 on whfs.com through AOL Music.

Most of the time that I spend listening to the radio is during my commute to and from work. Which hopefully doesn’t last till 7PM or later. So I still don’t always get to listen to them. But I am hopeful that they will make a full comeback and be on the air in Baltimore 24/7.

As a side note The Junkies, what used to be the morning show on 99.1, have had a rebirth also. Going back to their roots on WJFK. They have the afternoon slot just after Howard Stern.

New Cable Modem

Filed under: General by Mike at around evening time on Thu, Jan 27, 2005

After dealing with a semi-flaky cable modem for the past couple months I have finally decided to buy my own and ditch the rental from Comcast. I had been renting this modem for about 7 years now and it’s time for a change. I purchased an RCA DCM615R for $25 off of Legend Micro on Ebay with $10 shipping. I couldn’t pass up the deal. After spending about a half hour on the phone with Comcast everything was up and running. Most of that time was spent waiting because the technitian had copied down the wrong MAC address.

I have found a new car that I think I might want to get.
It makes being stuck in traffic almost bearable.

Death of alternative rock radio in Baltimore/DC

Filed under: General by Mike in the early morning on Thu, Jan 13, 2005

Noon on January 12, 2005 marked the death of alternative rock radio in the Baltimore/DC area. WHFS 99.1 served this area since 1961, and about ten years later changed formats to progressive rock. In a region where there are many choices of what to listen to, no one comes close to delivering like WHFS. At noon on Jan. 12 the station went silent and about 5 minutes later came back on with the music in Spanish. Well not just the music is in Spanish, everything is in Spanish. They are now EL Zol 99.1. This change was came abruptly and with no notice at all. Just that morning I was happily listening to The Junkies, then when I left work all I heard was Spanish. Thinking that this must be some kind of joke I listened for a little. When I got home I did a little research and thats when I found out the horrible truth, they are gone. Well I guess I will survive and find a new radio station to listen to, but I am still bitter and will be bitter for a while.

Good bye WHFS it’s been fun and you will be missed.
